Mr. Neumann started his career as a basketball player in 1969 at the high school level, then he was 1st pick in ABA draft, and played in the ABA. and NBA until 1978. in 1979 he played in Gabetti Cantu in Italy and lead the team to the European Cup Winners Cup Championship and was Voted MVP of the EURO LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP. In the same year he started his coaching career as a Player-Assistant Coach at BSc SATURN COLOGNE Germany. He Lead the team to the German League Championship and won the German Cup. Then he was Voted the top AMERICAN PLAYER IN EUROPE, Later he won the German League Championship.
In 1981 he received his first head coaching job and coached the all-stars team that toured Europe. Five players signed European contracts. In 1982 he coached CBA's MAINE LUMBERJACKS. and was voted Runner-up coach of the year to George Karl, currently, Denver Nuggets' Head Coach and discovered Charles Jones who is back-up center in the Houston Rockets.
In 1983 he was head coach and general manager of CBA's BAY STATE BOMBARDIERS and lead the team to the play-offs for the first time in history but lost in the semi-finals of the CBA Championship in the 7th game to the ALBANY PATROONS, coached by Phil Jackson, now Head coach of NBA's Champions, the LA Lakers. In 1984 he was granted the NBA Coaching Diploma as a result of working and studying under Jack McCloskey former Vice-President and General manager of the Detroit Pistons and learned all facets of scouting, marketing, and business operations. Acquired in-depth knowledge pertaining to off-season and pre-season training for speed, agility, strength, and endurance.
In 1986 he moved up back to Europe to coach B.C. BINET-COURTAGE VERVIERS, in Belgium. he was voted coach of the year. In 1987 he headed to the most reputed championship in Europe, in Greece where he head coached P.A.O.K. Under his supervision PAOK was the first team to beat Aris in seven years. He the Lead team to final 16 teams in Korac cup competition in 1987-88 and 1988-89 and reached the finals of the Greek Cup in 1988-89, and qualified for the Cup of Cups Championship. he was also named COACH OF THE YEAR. In 1989 he was appointed as PAGRATI's Head Coach in the Greek championship. In 1991 he went back to the U.S.A. to coach in the GLOBAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION, GBA, after his departure, PAGRATI finished last and fell to the Second Division. He coached the LOUISVILLE SHOOTERS, in the GBA and finished in the Second place in the division. He lead the team to the best home court winning percentage, and set a league record of 22 consecutive home wins. But the League folded due to financial difficulties.
In 1992-1993, he returned back to Greece to head HERCULES. He Coached the team to the final 16 in Korac Cup Competition, and lead the team to the Greek play-offs and finished in the final six.
In 1993 he headed to Cyprus and was appointed as Head Coach and General Manager in a four-year contract in PEZOPORIKOS. He Won the CYPRIOT CHAMPIONSHIP and was runner-up in the CYPRIOT CUP. Under his reign, PEZOPORIKOS was the first Cypriot team ever to advance to third round of European Cup Competition in 1993-1994. He was Named COACH OF THE YEAR and discovered Darrelle Armstrong, who signed a multi-year contract with the Orlando Magic of the NBA.
PEZOPORIKOS merged with E.P.A. in 1994-95 and was renamed A.E.K. The team advanced to the second round in Europe after beating the Bulgarian League Champions. Barcelona eliminated A.E.K. from the Cup. He Coached the team for the second year to the finals of the Cypriot League Championship, but lost in a very tight play-off. He was Named COACH OF THE YEAR for the second time. In 1995-96, he lead his team to the second round in Europe and lost by an aggregate of 12 points to SPORTING from Greece. In 1997 he was transferred to APOEL Basketball Club in Cyprus. He lead the team to the third place in Cypriot Championship and to the Cypriot cup finals.
In 1999 he headed back to the USA and was appointed as a head coach and assistant general manager for Youngstown Hawks in the International Basketball Association (IBA). The team had many financial problems and that during mid season the team was moved to Saskatoon Canada. The Hawks still made it the playoffs. In 2000 he headed to Kuwait to coach KAZMA SPORT CLUB.
In 2001 he was appointed as Team Lebanon coach and qualified the team for the first time in its history, to the World Cup
