Bobby is a great passer, defender and has strong leadership ability. He can play both the point and the 2 guard positions. In 2008-09 started in 38 of 71 games at UNC after an All-ACC freshman season that featured 27.5 minutes 6.4 ppg 2 to 1 assist ratio. In 2007-2008 was a defensive stopper for the same team that made it to the Final Four that lost to eventual champion Kansas. Scored double figures in 17 games and played on 2008-2009 National Championship team that features several NBA first round picks. In 2009 Final Four, played 19 minutes with 7 rebounds against Villanova and then played 23 minutes against Michigan State in Championship Game.
Comments from Roy Williams North Carolina's Head Coach: " His freshman year he started and played every game and was instrumental to us finishing second in the ACC and being a third seed nationally in the NCAA tournament, in spite of the fact that we had no player returning that averaged more than three points a game from the previous season. Bobby did a great job running our club. He scored, defended and was an all around point guard that did an amazing job.
Bobby's sophmore year was bothered by a stress fracture in his foot, and in his junior year he tore his ACL. This was a difficult situation for our team both years because Bobby had developed into a great defensive player as well; we needed his savvy greatly.
This past year, Bobby fought back from the ACL injury and surgery and did a great job for us. He continued to be a great leader and point guard and even improved defensively. He became our best and most vocal defensive player.
I hope that people understand when looking at Bobby that the second year after the ACL surgery is when a youngster really makes some major strides. I truly belive Bobby will be successful at the next level because of his skills, but also for what he does for a club mentally."
