O'Bannon comes back to Maccabi Rishon
Maccabi Rishon Le-Zion (Israeli Winner League) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American guard Larry O'Bannon. It is actually his comeback to Rishon Le-Zion as he played here before.
He managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year. O'Bannon played most recently at Krasnie Krilya in Russian VTB league. In 5 EuroChallenge games he recorded 10.8ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.0apg. O'Bannon also played 11 games in VTB United League where he averaged 9.9ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.6apg and 1.1spg. He helped them to make it to the quarterfinals. O'Bannon also played at Olympique Antibes (ProA) in French league last season. In 15 games he averaged 13.7ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.9apg and 1.0spg.
In 2012-13 season he played at Hapoel Eilat. In 19 Winner League games he averaged 14.0ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.2apg and 1.3spg. He contributed to his team ending the regular season as at the second position in the league. They also advanced to the league semifinals. The other team O'Bannon played that season for was SAV Vacallo (LNA) in Swiss league. In 18 games he averaged impressive 17.8ppg, 3.1rpg, 3.2apg and 1.4spg in 2012-13 season. He contributed to his team making it to the Swiss Cup Semifinals.
O'Bannon ended the previous (11-12) season at Lanus (LigaA) in Argentinian league. But the most of that year he spent at Boca Juniors (LigaA) in Argentinian league. In 49 games he was fifth best scorer with remarkable 16.1ppg and recorded 2.7rpg and 1.2apg in 2011-12 season. Great year indeed as he was voted to Latinbasket.com All-Argentinian LigaA Honorable Mention and to the All-Star Game. O'Bannon played in the final of Venezuelan LPB in 2010.
He is a very experienced player. O'Bannon has played also professionally in Bulgaria (Lukoil Academic Sofia), Greece (A.G.O Rethymno Aegean), Italy (Udinese and Napoli), Venezuela (Marinos) and Israel (Maccabi Haifa). He attended University of Louisville until 2005 and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball.
Larry could be described as a guard who shoots well out from the screens and who can penetrate using his strength and his athletic skills. Can play in the 2 and 3 positions, but needs to improve his continuity and to play some more European basketball to improve in passing and court vision.
