Givova Scafati Basket (Italian Serie A2) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American point guard Derek Williams. He played most recently at Istanbul DSI in Turkish TBL league. In 30 games he recorded very impressive stats: 18.6ppg, 3.8rpg, 5.2apg and 1.1spg last season.
The previous (14-15) season Williams played at Gelisim (TB2L) in Turkish league where in 34 games he averaged remarkable 18.6ppg, 4.3rpg and 4.4apg. A very good season in his career as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Turkish TB2L Honorable Mention.
In 2011 (a year after he left the college) Texas Legends selected him as fifth overall pick in D-League draft.
The former Southern Methodist University standout
He graduated his college in 2010 andis in his seventh season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements he received Eurobasket.com All-Latvian League Import Player of the Year award back in 2011.
Williams has played also professionally in Slovakia (Inter Bratislava), Latvia (Barons Riga and VEF Riga).
