The inaugural season of the VTB United League just ended and the Lithuanian club of Zalgiris Kaunas clinched the third spot in the consolation final of Friday 22nd. 6.5” guard Mantas Kalnietis ensured a perfect start for the Lithuanian team, but it was Martynas Pocius the shining star for the Zalgiris team. Martynas finished with 26 points to lead Zalgiris (5-of-5 from behind the three-point arc), grabbing also two rebounds and handing out two assists. The Kaunas team held off Khimky, ending the game 78-72.
The VTB United League is a new club competition founded in 2008 with the aim to unite the leading clubs of Eastern Europe. This first season has seen 8 clubs challenging from 5 countries: Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
