Stal Ostrow signs Porter Troupe
BM Slam Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (TBL) signed 33-year old American guard Porter Troupe . He played last season at Steaua CSM EximBank Bucuresti in Romanian Liga Nationala. In 17 games he had 13.9ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.4apg. Troupe helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals. He also played for CS Energia Rovinari Targu Jiu (also in Liga Nationala) that season where in 20 games he recorded 14.5ppg, 3.2rpg and 3.2apg. Troupe also played 12 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded very impressive stats: 16.2ppg, 3.6rpg, 4.3apg and 1.3spg.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted Eurobasket.com All-Romanian League 3rd Team in 2015.
Troupe has played on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Cyprus (Apoel), Lebanon (Al Moutahed) and IBL (Vancouver Volcanoes).
Troupe attended University of Portland until 2002 and it will be his 15th (!!!) season as a professional player.
He could be described: Porter is a combo guard that can also move to the 3 position in some leagues. Possessing a deadly shooting stroke, he is a great asset to any team. As a big guard he is also effective posting smaller players but is usually too quick for players his size. Having played point guard in the past, Porter has a great understanding of where all his teammates are on the floor. Porter is very dangerous in a pick and roll situation as both, a scorer or a provider. Defensively, Porter is at his best playing the passing lane using long arms to discourage passes and create turnovers. On the ball is very good at containing the ball handler. He can also lend a helping hand rebounding although this isn't his strength. Porter would be an asset to any team playing in the Eurochallenge or Eurocup.
