Vasquez makes impact in 12 minutes

The Venezuelan PG/G Greivis Vasquez is having a great start to his first NBA season. In the 19th round of the Regular Season, in the game against Boston Celtics, Greivis added some bounce to Memphis Grizzlies. The 6'6”, rookie out of Maryland, checked into the game with 3:27 left in the third quarter and collected 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 12 minutes of playing.

“I thought Greivis, for having not played any significant minutes, did an outstanding job,” Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins said. “He brought a lot of energy and emotion to the game.”

“It felt great,” said Greivis to the media after the game. “I tried to be ready. It was a great atmosphere, the fans were great.”

His teammate Marc Gasol had, as usual, a great game too, adding 14 points and 6 rebounds. When the media asked him about Vasquez he commented: “He was anxious for that moment. He came out and did real good. He gave us that spark and had the crowd into it to.”

Not only were his Grizzlies teammates impressed with his performance but the 2010 ACC Player of the Year, Vasquez, even earned the respect of some of the Celtic players who mentioned they didn't know him before the game.
