Leo Bassi

Director of Tennis Division

Graduated at Trieste Law University with a specialization in sports Law, Leo Bassi, boasts 30 years of worldwide experience in the field of sport management. After experiences in the United States at the IMG Headquarter in Cleveland, at 26 he became the youngest manager ever in the Italian basket first league, in Trieste.

From 1989 to 1991 he was a journalist for the Italian newspapers Corriere della Sera and Tuttosport following the world sport events in tennis and ski, then from 1991 to 1998 he headed the sponsoring department of Sergio Tacchini Group. In this position, he signed more than 500 contracts including athletes such as Marc Girardelli, Pirmin Zurbriggen in ski, Pete Sampras, Gabriela Sabatini, Goran Ivanisevic, Martina Hingisin tennis,Ian Woosnam in golf, and many others. 

For Sergio Tacchini he also signed the 5-year sponsoring contract of the Ski World Cup including TV rights of the circuit races.

From 1998 to 2002 he leaded the Communication and Sponsoring Department of Benetton Group for the following sports brands: Nordica, Prince, Rollerblade, Killer Loop and Playlife, all belonging to Benetton. 

In this period he was also General Manager of the professional Motorcycle Team of Benetton Liegeois in the World Championship series class 125.

In these years he signed more than 200 contracts with professional athletes such as Kjetjl Andree Aamodt, Christian Furuseth, Giorgio Rocca in ski, Jennifer Capriati, Maria Sharapova, Pat Rafter, Anastasia Myskina, Albert Costa, Marat Safin and many others in tennis. 

Both in Sergio Tacchini and  in Benetton, he acquired the right to endorse the Italian team at the Olympic Games,respectively in Atlanta ‘96 and Sydney 2000. 

With the in-depth experience gained in over 30 years of activity in this field, Leo Bassi is considered one of the most knowledgeable experts of Tennis, being the one and only to have performed in different times the role of player, coach, journalist, business manager and independent agent.

With two experiences at the Olympic Games,in 2001 Leo Bassi was awarded by CONI,the Italian Olympic Committee,for his contribution to the development of the sport business at international level.
