Kelsey Barlow's 30 points helps Grand Rapids Drive hold off Canton
When Kelsey Barlow walked through the player's entrance to the DeltaPlex Arena on Wednesday evening, a security guard told him he should score 30 points that night.
So he did.
The Grand Rapids Drive point guard scored a season-high 30 points as his team rallied to beat the Canton Charge 113-111 on Wednesday night in front of 3,011 fans.
"He searched me and I'm like 'I'm good, right?' Barlow recalled. "He said 'only if you give us 30.' I said 'I got you!' Maybe I can predict the future, I don't know."
Grand Rapids, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, improves to 7-8. Canton, whose parent team is the Cleveland Cavaliers, falls to 4-10. The Drive trailed by eight points at halftime.
So what was bigger, scoring 30 or the blocked shot to save the game?
"It was equally exciting to me," Barlow said. "Scoring 30 points helped us out to counter the 111 that (Canton) had and the blocked stopped us from having to go to overtime." Barlow, a 6-foot-5 guard out of the University of Illinois-Chicago, was 10-of-14 from the field and drained five 3-pointers.
